Thai Monthong Durian
Monthong durian is Thailand’s most popular variety, highly demanded both domestically and internationally. Its flesh is pale yellow, fine-textured, thick, dry, and abundant. The taste is sweet and creamy with a mild fragrance. Distinctive features include a thin shell, large and well-defined segments—especially the “main lobe”—and small spines called “snake fangs” between the larger ones. The tree has strong branches growing perpendicular to the trunk, is durable, easy to cultivate, yields abundantly, and is widely favored in global markets.
Key Characteristics
Fruit: Medium to large size, elongated shape, pointed tip.
Flesh: Pale yellow, fine, thick, firm, not watery, low fiber.
Taste: Sweet and creamy, well-balanced, fragrant.
Shell: Thin, clearly separated into lobes.
Spines: Angular base with small spines (snake fangs) in between.
Origin
Monthong was bred from Kampan Luang seeds, first cultivated in Bang Rak Noi, Nonthaburi Province.
The Monthong durians supplied by SO OK TRADING are of this lineage, grown in high-quality orchards in Chanthaburi.
