Metal Market Outlook 2026–2030: Lead Steady, Antimony Rising, Lead–Antimony Alloy Demand Remains Strong — SO OK TRADING | 10 SEP 2026

Introduction
The year 2026 marks a critical turning point for the global metal market, especially for base and strategic metals that vividly reflect the economic and energy landscape of the new decade. Lead (Pb) continues to hold a stable position in the market, despite challenges from the growth of lithium batteries. Meanwhile, Antimony (Sb) has emerged as a critical mineral under global scrutiny, driven by geopolitical factors and supply control from China and major producers such as Zimbabwe (which has restricted exports). These dynamics highlight the contrasting outlooks for metals in this decade in terms of demand, applications, and price trends.

⚖️ Lead (Pb): Stability in Transition
Outlook: In the medium to long term, lead remains vital in energy and industrial markets. While starter batteries (SLI) are being replaced by lithium, new demand is rising in large-scale backup power systems (UPS) for data centers supporting AI and 5G/6G, as well as renewable energy storage (ESS) in developing regions such as India and the Middle East. Lead also retains permanent applications in radiation shielding, where alternatives are limited. Prices are expected to remain steady in the range of USD 1,900–2,150 per ton, supported by continuous recycling of old batteries.

Antimony (Sb): A Strategic Mineral
Outlook: Antimony is classified as a “Critical Mineral” with high strategic importance. Future demand will grow in three main sectors: defense and security industries, clean energy (especially solar panel glass), and flame retardants. Despite China’s supply control and export bans from producers such as Zimbabwe, global demand remains extremely high. As a result, antimony prices are projected to stay above USD 25,000 per ton for years to come. Antimony has thus become a powerful metal shaping global economic and energy security.

⚙️ Lead–Antimony Alloy: Essential & Irreplaceable
Outlook: Lead–antimony alloys remain indispensable in specialized industries, particularly industrial batteries requiring deep cycling (e.g., forklifts, golf carts, and factory backup systems). They are also used in defense (ammunition production), chemical industries requiring acid-resistant materials, underground cables, and specialized soldering. Prices depend largely on the “antimony premium.” Even with stable lead prices, high antimony costs push alloy prices upward. Producers are increasingly focusing on recycling old alloy scrap to manage costs and reduce reliance on new antimony supply.

✨ Outlook 2026–2030
Lead: Stability and new demand in data centers and ESS, supported by recycling.
Antimony: Strategic power, high demand, and supply risks, with prices staying above USD 25,000/MT.
Lead–Antimony Alloy: Industry necessity, with costs tied to antimony premiums and recycling strategies.
In this decade: Lead represents stability, Antimony represents power, and Lead–Antimony Alloy represents necessity — together driving the global energy, security, and chemical industries forward.
